About Us

The College Club of Buffalo

The College Club of Buffalo was founded in 1914 by a group of women who were members of the American College Association, which later morphed into the AAUW. At that time, there was little or no opportunity for educated or professional women to enjoy the collegiality their male counterparts found at their clubs around the city. The spirit of the club they envisioned — one where women could share conversation, ideas and friendships — still exists today.

Our members range in age. They include educators, economists, publishers and entrepreneurs.  All of our members share a love of stimulating conversation, a commitment to offering affordable housing to women in our historic Georgian Revival mansion, and the sense of camaraderie our club offers.

Our Commitment

The College Club of Buffalo was founded by and for female college graduates, a rarity in that era. Within a few years, the Club purchased its current clubhouse, a mansion located in the heart of the Elmwood Historic District.

The Club has since broadened its goals and membership base to meet the new and growing needs of our generation. Our members are women from various professions, active or retired, who share a commitment to lifelong learning and an interest in cultural and civic improvement. You will find the Club is a wonderful place for cultivating new friendships and opportunities.
